FAQs
If you grew up in Australia with lighter skin type, a history of sunburns, a family history of skin cancer, a high mole count, have used sunbeds or are immunocompromised you should get regular skin checks.
No. You can self refer for a skin check or if you have a lesion of concern. Your GP may send a letter with you to highlight a concern but it is not required for an appointment.
All dermoscopic skin examinations are performed on exposed skin down to underwear or bathers only. It is a good idea to thoroughly examine yourself beneath underwear prior to your appointment and highlight any concerns you may have. We have modesty sheets provided if you require, and a chaperone nurse is available on request.
- Make a list of things you are concerned with.
- Ask family members if there is any history of melanoma in the family.
- Do not apply any make up to your face on the day of your skin check.
- Self check beneath underwear as we routinely do not check these areas unless you are concerned.
Yes. All images taken during the examination using the program DermEngine are available to you. After your appointment you will be sent a link to “Molescope”. Follow the directions to gain access to your images.
At the clinic we do not play “no news is good news”. You will be contacted by your doctor or one of our experienced skin cancer nurses to discuss your result. If you have not been contacted after 10 days please contact the clinic for your result.
